The risk for the peripheral nerve damage during the varicose vein surgery of the lo- wer extremity has been decreased with the minimal invasive techniques, however it is also a true fact that this unexpected condition may also happen in the most experienced hands. The main aim of this review is to put forth the possible peripheral nerve lesions during the varicose vein surgery of the lower extremity for consideration. It is important to know the nerves related with the venous system which were planned for surgery and to consider the possible places in where these ner- ves may prone to be damaged. When needed, imaging studies (ultrasonography, magnetic resonange imaging, etc.) can be considered to put forward the relationship between the veins and the nerves. This would help to recude the risk for the nerve damage. Physical examination of the patients be- fore and after the surgery, long term follow-ups of the patients together with the electrophysiological tests would help to determine the level of the nerve injury and to guess the healing period.
