Vascular Complications of Cardiac Catheterization

1Gülhane Askeri Tıp Akademisi , Kalp ve Damar Cerrahi ABD, Ankara Peripheral vascular complications after cardiac catheterization constitute an increasing portion of traumatci ­ vascular injuries. To determine the insidence of these complications and the sequelae of their treatment, we re­ viewed 11 017 cardiac catheterizations performed over 8 year period. 108 vascular complications were; hemat­ hom (66 cases), pseudoaneurysm (9 cases), thromboembolism (12 cases), infection (4 cases), arteriovenous fis­ tula (3 cases), bleeding (8 cases) arterial injury (5 cases) and breaking of sheath (1 case). Significantly more complications occured in patients who were older than 60 years of age, female or in whom•brachial approach made. in addition, likelihood of a vascular complication after conorer angioplasty was significantly higher than after coroner angiography (p< 0.05).

Vascular complications after cardiac catheterizations continue to be significant problem, especially with in­ creasing in coroner angioplasty. Especiallyin the patients over 60 year of age, female and in brachial approac­ hings it must be kept in mind. Keywords :
