Removal of detached pharmacomechanical rotational thrombectomy device tip inside deep vein using Fogarty® catheter

However, since current anticoagulation treatment is not a thrombolytic treatment and is unable to lyse the clot, thrombus obstruction and associated venous hypertension may lead to valve destruction in the late term. As a result, venous insufficiency and venous ulcers may develop. Nonetheless, these late manifestations, which are known as post-thrombotic syndrome, due to deep vein thrombosis are likely to be avoided. Surgical thrombectomy, catheter-directed fibrinolytic therapy, and percutaneous pharmacomechanical thrombectomy are among the current methods used. In this article, we present a 26-year-old male patient with deep vein thrombosis in whom the tip of the catheter was split in the femoral vein during percutaneous pharmacomechanical thrombectomy and this complication was successfully treated with a percutaneous Fogarty® catheter with the aid of opaque agent under scopy.
