Is Low Moleculer Weigh Heparin Effective in the Treatment Proximal Deep Vein Thrombosis

Low moleculer weight heparin {LMWH} is being preferred to standart heparin tor the treatmentof deep vein throm­ bosis {DVT}. in this prospective study, 1O patients with ilio-femoral vein occlussion were treated with CY 216 (Fraxipari­ ne-Sanofi) with the dose of 225 AX a ICU/kg every 12 hours. Standart heparin (Liquemin} infusion was started tor pati­ ents refractory to treatment. Venous Tc 99m scan and/or duplex ultrasound tests, and leg diameter measures were ob­ tained on days 1 and 10. Patients discharged with oral warfarine were assigned radiological tests every 6 weeks. Stan­ dart heparin infusion was started on 4 patients (40 %), who were irresponsive to treatment. Consequently, the irresponsivity of 40 % of the patients to CY 216 can be attributed to proximal vein occlusion and insufficient number of cases.
