SURGICAL TREATMENT iN TRAUMATIC ARTERIOVENOUS FISTULAE (An evaluation of 7 cases)

Abstract

Seven patients suffered from traumatic arteriovenous fistulae (AVF) had surgical interventions in Atatürk University Medical Faculty Cardiovascular Surgery Department between 1990-1997.

The ages of patients range from 21 to 64 (mean: 47.4). 5 cases were male (71%), 2 cases were female (29%). Fis­ tula localisations were; iliac in 2 (28.6%) patients, femoral in 2 '28.6%) patients, between popliteal artery and popli­ teal vein in 2 (28.6%) patients and between vertebral artery and vein in 1 (14.2%) patient. The method of diagnosis were; used angiography and doppler ultrasaunography tor 6 (85.7%) patients and only doppler ultrasaunography tor 1 (14.2%) patients. Surgical interventions were; primarily repairing in 3 cases (42.8%), saphen vein graft interpositi­ on to artery and patch plasty veni in 1 case (14.3%), primer repair to artery and saphen vein graft interpozition to ve­ in in 1 case (14.2%), primer repair to arter and vein ligation in 1 case (14.3%) and arterial ligation in 1 case (14.3%). The patients were followed up of 3-58 month (mean: 19.7). in 1 patient (14.3%) developed postoperative deep venous insufficiency, other patients were asemptomatic.

The cases were not enough, but when suitable methods were carried out successful treatment was impressed.
