Ekstrakranial Karotis Arter Darlıklarında Endarterektoıni Uygulamaları

The primary reason of surgery lor atherosclerotic occlusive disease of extracranial carotid arteries is prevention of stroke. in this study, endarterectomy results and literature were reviewed with implication of surgical indications and accompanying diseases.

24 endarterectomies were applied to 22 patients between 1988-1997. Transient ischeamic attacks (TIA) taking tirsi rank with 15 patients (68%) were the most important indication lor the surgery. Because of the accompanying coro­ nary artery disease, 3 patients previously and 1 patient at the same session, totally 4 patients (18%) were undergo­ ne to coronary artery bypass surgery. And also, 2 patients (9%) because of an accompanying aortoiliac occlusive di­ sease were undergone aorto-bifemoral bypass operation at the same session in one and afterwards in another. Tem­ porary neurologic morbidity of 9% and perioperative mortality of 4% due to a myocardial infarction in one patient was found. it is clear that patients with the TIA are the most suitable group to decrease the risk of stroke. But, it was not forgotten that accompanying serious coronary artery disease increased the acceptable mortality lor this disease.
