OUR FIVE YEARS EXPERIENCE i N PERIPHERIAL VASCULAR INJURIES

Forty-nine patients who were operated tor vascular injury between January 1995 and January 2000 investigated ret­ rospectively. Twenty-nine patients (59.18%) were gun shot, 13 (26.53%) blunt trauma and 7( 14.28%) were injured by sharp tools. Popliteal artery and popliteal vein was injured in 12 cases which were the most common injured vas­ culature (24.48%). in 21 cases bone injury (42.85%) and in 12 cases nerve injury ( 24.48%) was accompanying to vascular injury. Saphenous vein graft interpositioning was the most common repairment lor both arterial and venous injury. For surgical decision making; in 9 cases (18.36%) angiography, in 4 cases ( 8.16%) Doppler ultrasonography was performed. For the rest of the cases (36, 73.46%) physical examination was sufficient lor surgical decision.
