SURGICAL APPROACH TO FOREIGN BODIES WITHIN THE CIRCULATION

Endovascular interventions are increasing proportionally with development of technology and experience in treatment of cardiovascular diseases. These procedures are noninvasive but sometimes may cause serious complications, which require surgical treatment.

These complications are very rare in literature. A fragment of the endovascular device can be remained in vascular system or a foreign body can be migrated into the vascular system. We presented 18 cases with diagnosis a foreign body in vascular system. We removed all foreign bodies with surgical intervention and we discussed surgical appro­ ach of these cases. Furthermore in 4 patients we had extracted foreign bodies with noninvasive methods.

Appropriate approach tora patient with diagnosis a foreign body in vascular system should be noninvasive interven­ tion at first. lf the experience is not enough in noninvasive method or localization of if the foreign body is in a life­ threatened region, surgery approach should be choused.
