SUPRESSION OF INTIMAL HYPERPLASIA iN BALLON INJURED CAROTIDARTERIES IN RATS: COMPARISON OF ACETYLSALYCYLIC ACID AND TICLOPIDINE

To invest igate the effects of acetylsalicylate and ticlopidine and combination of these drugs in suppression of intimal hyperplasia, baloon injury was applied ta the common carotid arteries of 24 rats.They were divided in 4 groups; acetylsalicylate, ticlopidine, both drugs together and na drug groups. Ten days later, rats were sacrified and common carotid arteries were pathologically examined. lntimal index ( intimal thickness / medial thickness) was calculated. in suppression of intimal hyperplasia, Although no statistically significant difference was revealed between acetylsalicylate group and ticlopidin and acetylsalicylate combination groups, there was statistically significant difference between these groups and ticlopidin and control groups.
