VERTEBRO-CAROTID REIMPLANTATION iN SYMPTOMATIC VERTEBRAL ARTERY STENOSIS

Vertebral artery surgery is seldom perlormed in Turkey. However these procedures reveal satisfactory results in patients with signs and symptoms proven to be a result insufficiency of vertebro-basilary circulation. This report aims to discuss the effectiveness of surgery in symptomatic vertebral artery stenosis on the basis of two cases. A 61 years old female and a 77 years old male were admitted to the hospital because of repeated attacks of balance loss and fail. lnvestigations revealed critical stenosis of the vertebral artery at the orifice in both of the cases and translumina l balloon angioplasty was planned. Vertebro-carotid reimplantation was performed in both cases after the angioplasty interventions both failed. Both cases were discharged from the hospital on the 2nd and 3rd days of the operation on acetyl-salicylic-acid. Follow-ups at 4th year and 151h month revealed improved outcomes without any problem. in conclusion vertebral artery surgery has good results in patients with symptomatic vertebro-basilary circulation disorders and improves life quality.
