ACUTE TOTAL ABDOMINAL AORTIC OCCLUSION IN A PATIENT WITH "FOOT DROP" THAT WAS OPERATED FOR DISCAL HERNIATION

Acute abdominal aortic occlusion remains a serious vascular surgical emergency with significant morbidity and mortality. In a patient complaining of pain, weakness or numbness of a leg and presenting with foot drop the differential diagnosis should include aortoiliac vascular disease. This case demonstrates that peripheral nerve injury in the legs may signal underlying large vessel occlusive disease. (Turkish J Vasc Surg 2003; 12(1): 39-41)
