MICROSURGERY TRAINING BEFORE THE STEP ON LIVE ANIMAL

Abstract

Purpose: The aim of this study to describe a basic microsurgery training without live animal. One can easily manuplate the microsurgery tools and sutures after learning described exercises.

Method: A five-day training program which has been performed by using a special "practice card" was described for the surgeons who can not find live animal model or have limited conditions. This card can easily be prepare with a cardboard and a surgical rubber glove.

Result: Although anastomosis training on live animal model is essential in basic microsurgery training, one occasionally can not provide enough lab animals and ideal laboratory conditions for this purpose. The method described here 1. reduce the requirement of live animals, 2. does not necessiate special lab conditions, 3. prepares one to practice on live animals.
