Abstract
Although clinical presentation of acute superior mesenteric artery thrombosis has similarities in many aspects with acute superior
mesenteric artery (SMA) emboli, there are significant differences in the acute phase. Thromboendarderectomy, bypass and SMA
reimplantation are the major surgical treatments in SMA thrombosis. The reimplatation of superior mesenteric artery to
abdominal aorta region below renal artery is a procedure providing sufficient visceral flow. In our case, the diagnosis of acute
SMA thrombosis was made in a patient with a progressive abdominal pain. In the operation room, the head of the patient is lifted
to a 30 degree (from the waist) to maintain the ischemic intestines to move into pelvis. Then following the embolectomy SMA was
end to side anastomosed to the abdominal aorta. Patient was discharged without any event. (Turkish J Vasc Surg 2005;14(2):31-
