NON-COMPLICATED CENTRAL VENOUS PORT CATHETER AMONG 21 YEARS WITHOUT EXAMINATION: CASE REPORT

Along with the increasing use of central venous catheters have come an increasing number of complications. We reported a case whose port catheter removed after 21 years of placement. On the physical examination of the woman with breast cancer, there was a subcutaneus chest port on the right side of the chest. By the history of the patient, it is learned that the patient underwent surgery for cervix carcinoma in 1986; the port was placed to infuse chemotherapotics after the surgery, and she never came to the hospital since than. Modified radical mastectomy performed. The port catheter removed after 21 years of placement while preparing skin flaps. By the reason of the frequent complications of the port catheters we believe that the early detection of secondary migration, calcification or the other complications is very effective to minimise morbidity and mortality of catheter using.
