Abstract
Objective: The study was planned to determine the association between disability and quality of life according to the CEAP classification for chronic venous insufficiency. Material and Methods: The study was carried out between December 2007-September 2008. 232 patients who were diagnosed to have chronic venous insufficiency and referred to outpatient clinics of two State Hospital were included in the study. For data collection, Questionnaire form and Short-Form Health Survey-36 (SF-36) to Quality of life -QoL and Disability Short Form were used. For statistical analysis SPSS 11.00 was used. Results: Mean age of the patients was 43.61
± 14.90 years. 64.2% of the patients were female whereas 35.8% were male. According to CE- AP classification, 19.4% of the patients were in CI, 40.2% of them in CII, 32.2% of them in CIII, 5.6% of them in CIV and 2.6% of them in CV. QoL sub scores of male patients were higher than scores of female patients. Physical (78.52 ± 25.64) and physical role (60.66 ± 40.36) scores of patients who were 35 and younger were higher than other age groups and the difference was sig- nificant (p< 0.05). As the clinical status of the patients worsens according to CEAP classification, quality of life scores were found to be lower. In 33.6% of the patients, disability due to chronic venous insufficiency was not detected whereas in 25.0% of patients severe disability was encountered. Conclusion: To conclude, as the chronic venous insufficiency worsens according to CEAP classification, quality of life and disability scores were found to be lower.
