Mid Term Results of Extra-Anatomical Crossover Femoro-Popliteal Bypass Surgery

Objective: The aim of our study was to present technique and mid-term results of extraanatomical crossover femoro-popliteal bypass. Material and Methods: Extra-anatomical crossover femoro-popliteal bypass surgery was performed in 28 patients in our clinic between February 2007 and January 2014. Polytetrafluoroethylene ring and carbon coated grafts were used in all patients. Patient demographics were investigated. Results: The mean age of the patients was 56.71 years (range 22-79 years), and the mean follow-up period was 37.46 months (range 1-80 months). Critical limb ischemia (leg) was present in 18 (35.7%) patients. Extra-anatomical crossover femoropopliteal bypass surgery was applied to 28 patients. Postoperative embolectomy was required in 7 patients, and a distal amputation was necessary in 3 of them. Other patients are still alive without critical limb ischemia symptoms. Conclusion: Extra-anatomical crossover femoro-popliteal bypass is a preferable technique that may be used owing to its successful results in cases with peripheral arterial disease requiring femoro-popliteal bypass, and no suitable vascular structures in their femoral region.
