Treatment strategies of abdominal compartment syndrome following endovascular repair of ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms: A case report

Ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms (rAAA) still remain important, as they may lead to high intraoperative mortality and morbidity and require prompt diagnosis and surgical repair. Upon the advancements in technology and increased experience in aorta-related pathologies, endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) techniques have found more place over open surgery. However, intraabdominal hypertension and abdominal compartment syndrome (ACS) are serious complications which can be encountered following endovascular repair of rAAAs. Abdominal compartment syndrome may lead to progressive organ dysfunction and mortality following endovascular rAAA repair, if early diagnosis and treatment are unable to be provided. In this case, laparotomy for abdominal decompression is the preferred treatment of choice. Abdominal decompression treatment is a life-saving procedure in patients with ACS. In this article, we present a case in whom ACS developed following EVAR for rAAA in the light of literature data.
